Overview
Kara Newell is an associate with the firm’s Healthcare and Professional Liability practice group.
Prior to joining Gfeller Laurie, Kara litigated medical malpractice, personal injury, and business litigation cases in both State and Federal courts, including pleadings, depositions of expert and lay witnesses, settlement of cases through mediation and arbitration, and jury selection.
Kara is a graduate of Quinnipiac School of Law, where she was actively involved in the Mock Trial Honors Association, for which she served as the Vice President of Public Relations and competed as a regional semi-finalist in the two national mock trial competitions: American Association for Justice (AAJ) Student Trial Advocacy Competition (STAC) and Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) National Trial Competition (NTC). Kara now serves as a guest judge for regional and national mock trial competitions and serves as a mock trial coach for both Quinnipiac School of Law and University of Connecticut School of Law.

- Prevailed in a bench trial of a personal injury suit involving claims of sexual assault
- Deposed both fact and expert witnesses in several motor vehicle and premises liability cases
- Prepared clients for depositions in high stakes civil litigation cases arising from serious motor vehicle accidents and premises liability cases
- Conducted direct examination of a fact witness in Federal Court Jury Trial arising out of a Section 1983 claim
- Successfully argued dipositive motions including objections to motions to strike and objections to motions for summary judgment in personal injury cases arising out of wrongful death cases, serious motor vehicle accidents, and premises liability cases
