Mary H. Patryn has been advocating for clients in a wide range of matters and forums for over 25 years. Admitted to the state and federal courts of Massachusetts and Connecticut, Mary has represented clients in civil rights matters, employment disputes, personal injury cases, and construction defect claims. Her efforts through motion practice, appellate advocacy, and in negotiating settlements have yielded a solid record of successes. She has also helped attorneys and others successfully defend against ethics complaints.

- Successfully opposed summary judgment brought by third-party defendant in construction defect case who claimed client had control over the means and method of third-party defendant’s work.
- Prepared and filed motion in limine in wrongful death matter to preclude plaintiff’s expert witness from testifying at trial based upon expert’s lack of appropriate credentials and expert’s unreliable methodology. Plaintiff voluntarily agreed not to produce the expert.
- Prevailed on partial summary judgment in wrongful death matter regarding the application of the charitable cap to a possible plaintiff award.
- Effectively opposed motions to dismiss based on lack of personal jurisdiction brought by apportionment defendants in motor vehicle accident case.
- Researched, created, and wrote successful arguments in a case before the Connecticut Supreme Court, leading to the opinion that the Home Improvement Act did not apply to client’s work. The appellate court’s decision reversing the award of over $100,000 in attorneys’ fees against the client was affirmed.
- Assisted with the preparation of the winning argument in a case before the Massachusetts Appeals Court regarding the application of the statute of repose to the work of painting lines on a parking lot.
